BMW Preventative Maintenance: Every 5,000 Miles / 6 Months
It’s important to bring in your BMW two or three times a year (or every 5,000 miles) for these preventative maintenance services:
- Front and rear brake inspection
- Brake fluid check
- Coolant check
- Engine oil check
- Cabin air filter inspection
- Engine inspection
- Vehicle inspection
- Wiper blade inspection
- Any necessary tire rotations
Your BMW also comes with something called the Condition-Based Service Monitor (CBS). Your CBS tracks the condition of important systems in your BMW, letting you know if service is required. Our technicians will also use your CBS to determine what needs to be replaced, repaired, or serviced when you schedule service. Keep in mind that just because your CBS may say that service may not be necessary at 5,000 miles doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t come in for preventative maintenance and checks. Sometimes human eyes are necessary to determine a problem or to nip any potential issues in the bud.
Recommended BMW Maintenance Schedule
Your BMW service schedule needs will vary based on how often you drive, where you drive, and your driving conditions. Your owner’s manual can give you detailed information on common service tasks for your specific model and trim, but here’s what BMW owners can generally expect:
- Every 10,000 miles (or yearly): replace your vehicle’s engine oil, oil filter, and coolant.
- Every 20,000 miles (or every two years): inspect and replace your vehicle’s fuel filters.
- Every 30,000 miles (or every three years): replace your vehicle’s brake fluid (after the first replacement, every 60,000 miles) and replace your vehicle’s transmission fluid on manual-transmission BMWs.
- Every 60,000 miles (or every six years): replace your vehicle’s engine air filter and spark plugs, inspect and replace any brake pads and brake rotors, and replace transmission fluid on automatic-transmission BMWs.
- Every 90,000 miles (or every nine years): replace your vehicle’s timing belts and hoses.
You’ll want to repeat the cycle above after 90,000 miles and always follow the 5,000-mile maintenance schedule. Your BMW’s New Vehicle Limited Warranty will also expire at 50,000 miles, so we recommend getting in any repairs or service before this warranty expires! We also recommend replacing your BMW battery around 50,000 miles.
